Mark your calendars to help at the OHOS Christmas Bird Count on Thursday December 31, 2015. We meet at the Wendys at Dublin Rd and Glick Rd at 7amET to get your maps, check lists and assignments. Please email Darlene on or before Dec 20 if you plan to help with the count so she can assign teams. We welcome new birders and last year our 68 observers compiled 79 species of birds for the day. Thanks Darlene Sillick Powell, Ohio 43065 Mobile/text preferred 614-288-3696 National Audubon Christmas Bird Count: OShaughnessy Circle Location The OShaughnessy Reservoir Christmas Bird Count is centered at 40.2167 degrees North x -83.2167 degrees West, which is in Union County just northwest of the intersection of Watkins Road (CR 104) and State Road (CR 96). The count circle includes much of the O'Shaughnessy Reservoir, suburban Dublin and some Plain City, eastern Marysville, western Powell, southern Delaware and rural areas. The Columbus Zoo, Glacier Ridge Metro Park, Blues Creek and Emily Traphagen and Ohio Wildlife Center and Twin Lakes are some highlights along the Scioto River corridor. History The OShaughnessy Reservoir CBC has been conducted annually since 1955. 115th OHOS Christmas Bird Count December 31, 2014 December 31, 2014, 68 observers sponsored by Columbus Audubon, spent the day counting birds in NW Columbus including Franklin, Delaware and Union Counties. It was a very cold day (11-23 degrees during count time) and 66 observers in the field with 2 feeder counters were able to tally 79 species (including 2 found during count week) and a total of 14,399 individual birds. Count Date: December 31, 2014; 6:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Temp. 11-25 ΊF. Wind 5-10 mph Still water partly frozen, moving water starting to freeze. The day was partly cloudy Observers: 66 in the field in 13 parties, 2 at the feeders. Total party hours: 171 (127 on foot, 43 in cars, 1 on bike; 3 owling).
