Andy Avram and I birded Lake Erie Bluffs this morning.  It was relatively quiet with not a lot of bird activity flying overhead.  The lake was also slow, but there was some movement.  The most interesting bird was a  merlin flying out quite a way from shore.  It flying west very low over the water.  we saw it briefly fly up as if chasing something, but we didn't see anything.  Also of note were 6 swans that flew directly overhead heading south.  They never called at all.  we never could relocate them to get an ID.  My thoughts were trumpeter swans.  there were quite a few horned grebes on the lake and a few loons.  Andy saw a few fox sparrows earlier.  The northern shrikes have not been seen since last week.
