My son and I are hunting today in a blind. A raptor swooped by the window and on top of the blind like a kamikaze pilot. It scratched around on top of the blind for a moment and then went into the weeds. It came out and then went to a tree. I initially blew it off as a Northern harrier because we get them all the time. Then I got warm enough to get the binoculars out and look at it a bit. I thought it must have been eating something and had blood all over. Now i know it isn't even a harrier. Then it came right back to us and sat on a branch 30 feet away. It is a beautiful Red-shouldered hawk. I should have known right away because it wasn't moving like a harrier. I will ignore the cold and stop assuming from now on. Great yard bird. I think that is new for my property list and a good count week bird for the Carey Count. ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
