I visited several areas in both of these south Columbus MetroParks today, scouting for the Columbus CBC. Lots of birds were around in both sites, but I couldn't ferret out any real rarities. Notables included: -Raptors - lots of Red-tailed Hawks, but only 2 Cooper's (1 at each park) -Sapsucker - 1 was calling from the south picnic area at Blacklick Woods -Pileated Woodpecker - none at 3-Creeks, but Blacklick Woods had one calling along the Beech-Maple loop. -Hermit Thrush - 1 was along the 3-Creeks Alum Creek bikepath near the borrow pits -Robins - very common, with flocks in honeysuckle bushes all along Alum Creek in 3-Creeks -Yellow-rumped Warblers - none at 3-Creeks, but small flocks at several spots in Blacklick, 14 birds in all -Tree Sparrows - small numbers at many spots in 3-Creeks, but much rarer at Blacklick Woods -Fox Sparrow - 1 nice reddish iliaca Eastern subspecies was at the Confluence area in 3-Creeks ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
