We got excellent views of two lifers yesterday (Fri Jan 8). Eider at Sims - casually swimming sort of associated with a couple Goldeneye a hundred yards or less away as viewed looking east from the dock at bottom right of hill from parking area. 9:30-10:00 am. Black-headed Gull at Wendy Park - floating by itself a couple hundred feet offshore as viewed from around the top of the Coast Guard station looking west, away from the mouth of the river and the vast majority of the other (Bonaparte) gulls. a floating Bonaparte's in the vicinity useful for comparison. Reddish beak diagnostic. 12:00-12:30 pm. Third try for Black Vulture still unsuccessful, as was second try for Snowy. Win some, lose some. Thanks to everyone who finds and posts these rarities for us!
