Yesterday, 1/28, about 3:30 p.m. we had one Common Redpoll on the lake side of the Lorain impoundment lot. It was with a group of tree sparrows and two goldfinches. The group was feeding on a type of smartweed on the dike. The group flew back and forth between the dike and the phragmites. The interesting thing about the redpoll was that it had a very white rump which would indicate a Hoary Redpoll. We did not have a chance to see any other hoary field marks. And, if he two species are lumped, it might be a moot point anyway. Maybe someone else can relocate the bird and photograph it.
