I did a quick run-through of the accesses on the lower part of Hoover reservoir, starting at the dam. The bitter wind was blowing mist off the water surface, and forced all the waterfowl to hide close to the western shore of both the spillway and the reservoir. Still, there were interesting birds in those protected areas, including: Gadwalls - 18-20 were in the spillway below the dam AmerWigeon - 1 was in the Mallard & Gadwall horde in the spillway LesserScaup - 2 were along the shore above the County Line Rd bridge Hooded Mergansers - small #s in all spots, with highest being 30 off the Maxtown boat launch Ruddy Ducks - 8 off the shore above the County Line Rd Bridge Bald Eagle - 1 juvenile off the shore above the County Line Rd bridge Golden-cr. Kinglets - 2-3 were in the riparian woods along the spillway below the dam Yellow-rumped Warbler - 1 bird was along the shore of the spillway below the dam Tree Sparrows - small groups everywhere, with the largest being 10 birds below the dam ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
