a curious stop to peer at the the island in the flooded reservoir visible from this vantage point produced some interesting birds. We saw 15 or more black-crowned night-herons, probably the whole cohort which has been seen for years in the OSU area of the Olentangy River. Also, the two herring gulls that took the trouble of trying a nest here last year are still around, probably intending another try. These are both quite unusual nesters which will be interesting to keep an eye on. Islands surrounded by water are pretty scarce in inland Ohio, and should always be checked out for unusual nesters.
