I did a quick run-through of several accesses along Hoover Reservoir this afternoon, all the way from the dam up through the boardwalk. The stiff SW wind seemed to scour the reservoir, so there were only a few geese & mergansers in some spots, and little else. There were some raptors around - Cooper's at 2 spots, and Red-tails at 3 more, including 3 soaring over the Sunbury causeway. What was common, however, were vultures - every stop had 2-3 birds soaring. I also came across a roost of 22+ birds in a fir-filled yard at the intersection of Gorsuch & Harlem roads. As the temperature drops over the next few days, this roost may get quite large with recent migrants. Clearly they're massing for an assault on Hinckley in a few weeks.
