A quick run through most of the southern Hoover accesses found plenty of very early migrants, but no Gulf Coast migrants yet. I stopped at the Dam, Duncan Glen, Twin Bridges, Mudhen Marsh, and Maxtown Boat launch. The new Twin Bridges Nature Trail was open, and it's definitely worth checking out as Spring progresses. Notables included: Cormorants - yes, they're back, with a flock of 70+ north of the dam that took off, heading north Ducks - very little, other than a small flock of Scaup off the dam Other Waterfowl - flocks of Coots at several spots, and 2 Horned Grebes off Maxtown launch Vultures - 12-15 were roosting at Twin Bridges Gulls - not much other than some Ring-bills and 1-2 Herring Sapsucker - at least 1 was foraging at Mudhen Marsh N.Flickers - common, with 1-2 at every stop. E.Phoebes - singles were at many stops, so their first wave is definitely here Tree Swallows - 3 were foraging over the reservoir at the Maxtown boat launch Brown Creepers - widespread, with birds at the Dam, Duncan Glen, and Twin Bridges Golden-cr.Kinglets - good movement, with 2-4 at every stop except Maxtown, which had 6 Yellow-rumpedWarblers - singles were at many locations Sparrows - not much other than Songs, Juncos, and a few White-throateds Blackbirds - Red-wings, Grackles, and Cowbirds were widespread. ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
