The Western tanager was seen again today in Upper Sandusky. After talking to the homeowners it has been there since Wednesday. The homeowners are welcome to visitors. It is in a residential neighborhood but there is very little traffic. The bird comes to the suet feeder in the front of the house. So far, every time it comes from over the roof. It has been on the porch and in the landscaping also. Lots of pictures were taken by several folks. It is an adult male in breeding plumage. Beautiful bird! There is plenty of food and cover. I think the bird will stay until the winds are right for moving on. In a cool aside, Tom Bartlett banded a Red-headed woodpecker, Downy woodpecker, Red-bellied woodpecker, and Yellow bellied sapsucker all in the same round today. It was a cool picture.Good luck to everyone enjoying migration.
