Just a note to alert birders to a valuable new book:"The Birds of
Hocking County, Ohio," by experts Watts, Knoop, and Coovert. It is
available in many venues by now, published by McDonald and Woodward of
Newark.
Few single Ohio counties have a serious book on birds devoted to them,
but Hocking is certainly one deserving. The historical aspects are
intriguing; the most impressive for me is the pair of B&W photos of the
forest in its original state pp.32-33. If you crave an appealing and
informative work on an Ohio birding mecca--its history, heroes, and
hidey-holes--you will rejoice in this one. Its 266 species speak for
themselves.
