Well, I got off early today, so I decided to check out areas of Indian Lake (Logan County) that I hadn't made it out to, and then swing by Lawrence Woods (Hardin County) on my way home. Pew Island is a small circular small gravel trail that is directly across from Oldfeild Beach. basically it is the farthest you can go on the road that goes to Moundwood boat ramps. It has its own hotspot, and is a nice little walk if you are in the area. I got a surprising amount of species for that little spit of land. Lawrence Woods was uncharacteristically quiet today...until I got to the small pond. Everything was around the pond calling and screaming, Blue Jays were amassing in a dead tree, along with the 14 or so Red-headed Woodpeckers....THEN a young Sharpie popped out, and all was made clear. It was so small, I thought it was a Wood Thrush, until I got my binoculars on it. :-D What followed was about a half an hour battle royal...I don't think the Sharpie ever got a meal. Great fun to watch...the only other better spot to view the fight was with the Turkey Vultures soaring overhead...Wish I had brought my camera. :-D Great day. With a lot of great birds...lists below. Happy birding and God bless!
