A rather interesting article in PhysOrg reports on findings that some
Yellow-shafted Northern Flickers in the east showing red pigmentation in
their wings are not actually hybrids with red-shafted flicker parentage
from the west, as usually would be the case, but rather are showing
pigmentation changes after feasting on non-native berrys. May be something
to consider if a putative hybrid between the two color morphs is found
here...
