A Fall colors hike through the Fern Trail, Hemlock Trail, and Creekside Trail found muted colors and mixed birds. No neotropicals are left here, but some temperate migrants were noticeable. The breakdown of who was up & who was down included: Vultures - plenty, including 2 Black Vultures along with the many TVs Hawks - a pair of Red-tailed over the Starner Road parking area, but little else Woodpeckers - lots of Red-bellied, with 10 in 2 hours. Fewer Downies, Hairies, and Flickers, plus 1 Pileated calling south of the Starner Lot. no Red-headed, but oaks don't have many acorns here. Wrens - few Carolinas and no Winters in 2 hours Kinglets - lots of Golden-crowns in the hemlock groves (16+), but no Ruby-crowns Hermit Thrushes - at least 4 in four different locations Sparrows - only a few, and all the expected (Field, Song, White-throated) Blackbirds - only a few grackles along US 33 Finches - hardly any ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
