Yesterday (10/13) I had 2-3 Nelson's Sparrows at Ellis Lake Wetlands in Butler Co. Photos are posted on ebird at http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S32021404. I encountered the species five times during my walk back and forth along the deer path adjacent to a canal bordered by marsh vegetation and a field of weeds (sorry, I'm not a botanist) on the other side of the deer path. In some cases I may have encountered the same bird but at one point I flushed two at once. I stayed in the field for more than four hours, trying to find a Le Conte's Sparrow ( one was there last year) to no avail.
