I have received many inquiries about my humming bird post. I live in Lancaster/Fairfield county. This bird was an immature. I observed it from less than ten feet. It is possible my old eyes deceived me, but I am 90% sure it was a RT. We moved into this home in 2005 and I keep a spreadsheet with specie and some date info. The previous late date for a RTH was Oct 4th. I leave my feeders up until it freezes in hopes of attracting a Rufous. I have not seen this bird at the feeder that I put up after seeing it for the second time. Hindsight says I should have put it up after the first sighting. Recently there was a RB Nuthatch here that is specie #109 at this residence. I saw it for five seconds or less. Both recent hummingbird sightings were fleeting observations. There are probably many short opportunities that we miss.
