The Sam Wharram Nature Club field tripped to the Pymatuning reservoir sunday the 19th. Although there was a lot of ice present, we still had good numbers of ducks. The best sighting occurred when we crossed the state line to the Hartstown ponds in Pa. A juvenile golden eagle gave us an up close flyby, driving a hundred or so tundra swans into the air. After circling us a few times, the eagle perched in the trees beyond the water. It flew into another tree a couple hundred yards away and was witnessed by about 10 birders. The eagle looked to be third year as it was missing the white wrist patches. A complete species list follows. Horned grebe Bufflehead C. Loon Tundra swan Gadwall N. Shoveler Am.
