I spent an hour & a half this afternoon walking around the Hoover dam area and nearby Inniswood MetroPark, looking for any early migrants, with little luck. The dam area was virtually devoid of waterbirds, with only a few Mallards & Hooded Mergansers in the spillway, and a few cormorants and gulls above the dam. The only significant notables were: Sharp-shinned Hawk - 1 was soaring over the spillway at Hoover Red-headed Woodpecker - at least 1 adult is still hanging around the forest trail at Inniswood Cliff Swallows - at least 5 were swirling around the dam, a major nest site area later in the season Gnatcatchers - none at Hoover, but 7-8 around Inniswood was a good # Warblers - nothing but a few yellow-rumps in the riparian zone below the dam ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
