Birded Prairie Lane, Messner Rd. and Clark Rd. in the Killbuck Marsh area
south of Wooster. Recorded 48 species from 8:30 - 11am. At Messner Rd. I
had two great crested flycatchers and a very cooperative yellow-breasted
chat that sang away for 10 minutes from atop a 30ft leafless tree while I
watched through my scope. Wood thrushes and red-eyed vireos were singing in
many places and I saw a white-eyed vireo well. Surprisingly, I did not see
red-headed woodpeckers or prothonotary warblers there. At Clark Rd. I saw
yellow and yellow-rumped warbler and common yellowthroat. By the water I
saw a very close prothonotary warbler, plus rose-breasted grosbeak. With
all the reports of 20+ species of warblers from Columbus south, the cold
north winds must be keeping most of the migrants from northern Ohio so far.
