A morning visit to this MetroPark was of Columbus found mixed migration, with some birds common, others scarce. Highlight was a singing Bell's Vireo in the scrub behind the westernmost picnic shelter at Darby Bend Lakes. I also stopped at Heritage Rail Trail, but did not hear any Bell's there. Stops in Prairie Oaks at Sycamore Plains, Darby Bend lakes, and the North Canoe access produced a list strong in riparian birds, modest in other migrants. Highlights included: Baltimore Orioles - 20+ in 2 hours, mostly singing males Orchard Orioles - 3 in 2 hours, with 2 t Darby Bend lakes Warbling Vireos - 8-10, almost exclusively in Cottonwoods along the creek Flycatchers - 4-5 Great Cresteds, 2 WoodPewees, 6+ Willows Thrushes - fairly scarce, with a few Woods and Swainsons in the thick woods at Sycamore Plains Mimids - Gray Catbirds abundant all stops; 2 Brown Thrashers singing along forest edge at Sycamore Plains Warblers - Yellow-rumps rebounding, with 15+; also had Parulas, Yellows (8-10), Yellow-throated (3), Nashville, Magnolia, Chesnut-sided, Blackburnian, Bay-breasted, Black&White, Redstarts, CommonYellowthroats (10+), Hooded, Wilson's (4) ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
