Two days in a row now a wading bird has been perched on a fallen tree on the northern end/east side of Baldwin Lake. Only had mini-bins and no camera. Bird was half to maybe 2/3 the size of a Great Blue Heron; body solid grayish brown with golden throat and chest; yellow bill (don't believe it was curved and not noticeably long); dark legs (bluish?). Bird kept neck in an S shape most of the time. The fallen tree on the east shore of Baldwin Lake can be seen by standing near the large red and white "STOP--Danger--Dam ahead" sign facing the lake (brown on the other side). Sign is just about between the two sets of garbage/recycling containers in the parking areas along Valley Parkway and is a few hundred yards south of N. Quarry Ln. I think this bird will return to the fallen tree--seems to be a favorite spot for herons and egrets (Great Egret also seen today, same area). ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
