Lakewatching is a difficult and exhausting but rewarding effort for those that put countless hours into watching birds moving along the shore. In late August, long periods of lulls can be marked by singular major highlights. As the season ramps up with passing fronts and NNW and WNW winds, opportunities skyrocket. This morning Dan Gesualdo had a relatively distant immature Long-tailed Jaeger pass by his Vermilion lakewatch in Erie County.
Of note in southwest Michigan, Tim Baerwald's daily count in St. Joseph, at the Tiscornia Park pier, scored both juvenile Sabine's Gull and Long-tailed Jaeger lazily drifting by on calm August winds.
