I was at the Wilderness Rd peat pits this morning from 8-10am. The water that was pumped out several weeks ago is slowly seeping back in. Conditions for shorebirds right now are excellent. Viewing to the west from the eastern-most dirt road that turns north just west of the short bridge when coming from Elyria Rd is optimal in the low morning light and the shorebirds are fairly close. The Hudsonian godwit that had been seen there for several days was not there. I observed the following species and numbers: Am. Golden Plover 35 Killdeer 25+ (estimate) Semipalmated plover 2 Greater yellowlegs 1 Lesser yellowlegs 10 Solitary sandpiper 1 Semipalmated sandpiper 5 Western sandpiper 1 - recurring bird Least sandpiper 3 Pectoral sandpiper 35 Stilt sandpiper 8 Short-billed dowitcher 3 Wilson's snipe 3 Randy Rowe, Wooster ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
