I stopped at a variety of spots around Battelle Darby MetroPark southwest of Columbus, and found that the hard winter has cut into ground feeders, especially sparrows. I didn't find a single White-throated Sparrow in four hours, and only found Tree Sparrows at my last stop, where a flock of 20 was feeding around the edges of the Kuhlwein wetland. Birds that use trees more, like woodpeckers and parids, seemed unaffected. Despite an open creek, there were hardly any waterfowl here besides a few Mallards. I did, however, find a big flock of geese & mallards in the cornfields around Bolton Field. ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
