Exactly.  This list serve is for “birders”.  So why is it that some were offended by the “era" of the language but not the “era" of ravaging a Barn Owl nest, stealing the almost hatched eggs and killing of the male Barn Owl?  That should get us upset but we know that is what birders did in the time {J. Audubon for example} That too was the practice of the late 1800’s as was the language in the same historical document.
The list serve should halt all further comments on this issue.  It’s done.  it’s over.  Move on.
