Hello, New migrants have been reported all over the state today. The wind combined with the storm today was fantastic for Birding. I was very surprised to see my first Prothonotary Warbler this morning in Preble County, at the Hueston Woods SP Marina. Also there was an Eastern Kingbird and Solitary Sandpipers were in, with four individuals seen. Yellow-throated Warblers were abundant, as were Blue-gray Gnatcatchers and Chimney Swifts. Not today, but recently at Hueston Woods, Spotted Sandpiper arrived as well as Broad-winged Hawk, both on April 9th. Dave and Jill Russell and I started at dawn today and did not plan to bird all day but once we noticed our list of species increasing fast, we decided to keep going and ended the day with 92 species, with some very easy misses. However, it should be noted that the list also includes Birding just across the Ohio-Indiana border, in Union, Franklin, and Wayne counties of Indiana. Although many birds making up our list were in Indiana, the migrants in Ohio were dripping and noteworthy, especially after viewing eBird reports throughout the day from others. Rain or shine, migrants are ready to be seen!
