Lots of early temperate migrants were infesting this SE Columbus MetroPark this morning, probably held up by the cold weather. An hour-and-a-half jaunt around the trails found lots of migrants feeding along the trail edges, since much of the rest of the ground was snow-covered. Included among the list were: NorthernFlicker - 12 Sapsucker - 1 E.Phoebe - 15 Golden-cr.Kinglet - 6 HermitThrush - 8 BrownThrasher - 1 Yellow-rumpedWarbler - 12+ E.Towhee - 14 ChippingSparrow - 8 (mostly around the Ash Grove picnic area) FieldSparrow - 6 (a flock of singing birds along the park road west of the Nature Center) White-throatedSparrow - 64+ FoxSparrow - 4 Junco - 42+ RedwingedBlackbirds - 20+ CommonGrackle - 14+ Cowbirds - 5+ Strangely missing were any BrownCreepers, WinterWrens, Ruby-crowned Kinglets, or Purple Finches. Golden-crowned Kinglet numbers were less than I've seen in many smaller parks the last few days. ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
