The Columbus Audubon trip to this downtown riverfront parks found a decent migrant fallout this morning. Bird numbers were not large, but there was good diversity and lots of singing males still around, so we were able to find and see a variety of migrants. The group spent several hours along the bike path in Scioto Audubon Park, and I stopped briefly at the Ohio Statehouse (early) and Berliner Park (late). Notables included: Herons & Egrets - small #s pof Great Blue Herons and Gret Egrets were along the river, and 2 Green Herons were off the boat ramp area at Scioto Audubon Raptors - an Osprey pari have started a nest on a microwave tower across from the boat ramp, while the eagle nest across the river from Berliner now has a large juvenile Shorebirds - little other than Killdeer and 1 Spotted Sandpiper Woodpeckers - nothing unusual along the river, but a Sapsucker was lingering at the Statehouse Park Flycatchers - small numbers of Pewees were augmented by 1 Great Crested (Scioto Audubon), 4-5 Least Flycatchers, 3 Acadians (Berliner), and 1 Willow (Scioto). Vireos - lots of Warblings along the River (15+), plus a few Red-eyed (6+) and 1 Blue-headed Thrushes - hardly any at Scioto Audubon, but Berliner had 5 Swainsons and 1 Wood Thrush Mimids - nothing but Catbirds, but they were abundant and singing everywhere Warblers - 21 species, including Parula, Yellow, Nashville, Tennessee, Magnolias (6+), Cape May, Black-thr.Greens, Black-thr.Blues (2 at Berliner), Yellow-throated (Berliner), Yellow-rumps (most common, with 15-20), Blackburnians, Bay-breasted, Blackpoll (surprisingly abundant, with 12-15), N.Waterthrush, Ovenbird (statehouse), Prothonotaries (1 Scioto, 2 Berliner), Chesnut-sided (4 at Berliner), Redstarts (12+), Com.Yellowthroat, Canadas, Wilson's Tanagers - not a one, suprisingly Buntings,Grosbeaks - Indigo Buntings were numerous along the bike path in both parks, but only Berliner had a singing Rose-br.grosbeak Orioles - Baltimores were abundant (16-20 at Scioto Audubon, 5-6 at Berliner), but there were also a few Orchards (2 at Scioto Audubon, 1 at Berliner) ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
