Mostly resident birds were active at these two north Pickaway County Preserves this morning. Both wetlands had high water levels and few waterbirds, but both had lots of singing landbirds. Best were two warblers that likely strayed to Stage's Pond woodlands: an Ovenbird (singing on the White Oak Trail) and a Worm-eating (singing near the Multiflora Trail start). Neither typically nest here, so I assume that they were prospecting for new nesting territories. Other unusuals included -cuckoos - Yellow-billeds calling at both spots, with 4+ at Stage's Pond -WillowFlycatchers - only a few at each park -BrownThrasher - singers at both parks -Rose-br.Grosbeaks - 4 at Stage's Pond and another at Mackey Ford -Orioles - both Baltimores and Orchards at both parks ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
