Unfortunately, this bird and sightings did not make it to the listserv, although observations were brief: an immature ROSEATE SPOONBILL was photographed by a non-birder on June 10th at New Russia Township Preserve in Lorain County. Word/pics did not reach a birder until June 13th. Even though the bird was not present anymore at the original spot (the pond inside the park), Diana Steele re-found the bird at 9 pm last evening (the 13th) just across the road from the park, in a small wetland to the north of Butternut Ridge Road. This bird was found and observed again this morning, the 14th, from sunrise until 7:05 am until it, unfortunately, flew off to the east and did not return. Pictures can be viewed by following this link: https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S46548370 Numerous spoonbills are popping up in the eastern U.S., as Ohio joins Indiana, West Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, and Virginia. Be on the lookout, this bird, or others, could turn up somewhere else in the state. 9:24pm As I am typing this post, the spoonbill has just returned to the same spot per reports!! June 14th. Good birding -- Cole DiFabio ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
