After posting that I heard a Least Bittern at Lk Logan, a birder emailed me and said that on ebird, there was a Least Bittern sighting at Lk Logan about 2 weeks ago. Wonder if it can find a mate & nest? Habitat seems limited. In the Birds of Hocking Cty by Watts et al 2016, no nesting records & only 2 records, one at Lk Logan in sept 1980, were known at publication. Birding o/w quiet but pleasant day to be out. Clear Creek was running high & anything but clear. Heard only warblers at Clear Creek: Worm-eating, Cerulean, Yellow, BT Green, B&W, Com YT, La WT. Seen: Am Redstart, Hooded, Ovenbird. Also had a pair of Brown Thrashers that seemed agitated by my presence, chipping loudly, so maybe a nest nearby. Besides the Least Bittern calling at Lk Logan, a flyover Osprey was nice plus one Green Heron. 2 fighting male Baltimore Orioles. I went to Conkle’s Hollow to see if I could find any Canadas although early afternoon was hardly optimal. No luck but my consolation prize was a perched Barred Owl. It stayed perched awhile, occ looking around. Some small birds were dive-bombing it. Then it flew deeper into woods out of sight. Lovely bird.
