About 30% of Cowan Lake was ice-free today, mostly in the east (upstream)
end, plus a strip at the beach and a bit near the dam. The highlight for me
was the 10 Tundra Swans. Larry Gara managed to find the Ross's Goose, but
it successfully eluded me, as has every Ross's Goose in the state of Ohio
for the last seven years. I even went back in the afternoon for a second
attempt, again in vain.
Other birds and peak numbers:
Canada Goose 500
American Widgeon 12
Mallard 63
American Black Duck 1
Northern Pintail 12
Northern Shoveler 2
Canvasback 1
Redhead 6
Ring-necked Duck 34
Lesser Scaup 7
Bufflehead 1
Hooded Merganser 3
Common Merganser 2
Cheers,
Bob
