Birders,
after reading a post about fewer hummer visitors, I thought I would add
two observations:
1- I have one pair (1M, 1F) visiting the feeder regularly. I assume
they are the same pair but can't prove it. They come singly and chase
off interlopers.
2- It seems to me that the 'nectar' is getting bacterial or fungal
growth much more quickly than I have seen in previous years. I used to
give it a weekly bath in bleach or vinegar, rinse very well, refill, and
it would start to get cloudy after several days. Now it is cloudy in
24-48 hours every time, and it doesn't seem to matter what I do to
sterilize the feeder.
Any thoughts?
Bill
