Check out this website! A back issue of Winging It had a little blurb about
it and I finally got around to taking a look at it. It is a really great
source for finding places to bird that have easy access for those who can't (or
don't want to) do strenuous walking. When I clicked on Ohio, I found most
of the expected sites, ie Magee Marsh, Sheldon Marsh, Metzger Marsh, etc.,
most in the northwest part of the state. But the neat thing is that the
web-master is looking for more additions. I bet we all know of at least 1 local
place, such as a park or nature center, that is not listed. I was able to add a
state park & a nature center, both located in Stark County, that have
boardwalks & easy, level hiking paths. I also discovered the web-site didn't know
about the boardwalk at Hoover Resv., so I added it. Some others I can think
of but don't really know much about include Green Lawn Cemetery, many paved
biking paths around the state, metro parks in all the big cities and on & on.
I am sure there are a lot more places in Ohio that should be added to this
list. And the list is a great way to find places to bird, both near & far,
whatever your physical abilities. Ohio is a really great place to find good
birding. Let's do all that we can to get the word out.
(I hope that this note does fall within the guidelines of this list-serv)
