This afternoon I combined cleaning nest boxes with some birding along the
Little Walnut Creek. For the second day in a row I encountered red fox, but no
Fox Sparrows. The individual I observed today behaved as if it were playing,
although my guess is that it was trying to root out a deer mouse. It was a
handsome specimen with rich color and a bushy tail that an airport could use as
a wind vane.
The birds were slow but there were some flourishes with mainly yellow-rumped
warblers. Mixed in were a few Tennessee, Nashville and Blackpoll Warblers,
ruby-crowned kinglets and blue-headed vireos.
