Began the day with cup of coffee and watching backyard feeders. Red-
bellied woodpecker, 2 Downy WP, WB and RB Nuthatches, 5 Mourning doves, BC
chickadees, Sharp-shinned hawk (Hides in fir tree to ambush the Mourning
doves coming to the platform feeder), 2 Blue Jays, 8 Cardinals, Dark-eyed
Juncos, 2 Tufted titmice, severa European Starlings, a lone Song sparrow,
a dozen House sparrows, an 6 Am. Goldfinches. The Sharp-shin took a strike
at a Cardinal but missed. Drove behind Fremont Filtration plant: saw 1
Great Blue Heron, 43 Mallards, 150 Canada Geese, hundreds of gulls
(Herring & RB). Didn't see immature Bald Eagle, which is there practically
all the time. Drove out Rt. 6 towards Pickerel Creek WA saw 4 Red-tail
hawks and 1 Horned Lark. In the distance were 30 Swans flying towards
Castalia and RestHave WA, but couldn't ID what kind. Robert
