I took a walk around the apartment complex this morning to see what I
could see. The Canada Geese only have two goslings left. The mallards'
brrods are dwindling too. In addition to the regulars I saw 2 great blue
herons and a spotted sandpiper. A neighbor told me that during the week
he saw an egret and a green heron here. I wish they had been around today.
Afterwards I walked over to Lazelle Woods. The Eastern Phoebe is spending
more time away from her nest these days. I saw her out hawking when I got
there. She returned to her nest before I left though. Her mate came with
her.
The Cooper's hawk nest is still visible through the leaves but just
barely. I could just make out the tail feathers sticking over the side of
the nest.
I saw both members of the red-tailed hawk couple today. They were both
carrying food and they both flew off in the direction of the nest which is
completely obscured by leaves. I wonder if this means they have nestlings
now.
At Lazelle Woods I also saw yellow-rumped warbler, tree swallow, barn
swallow, northern rough-winged swallow, red-bellid woodpecker (at the
nest), etc.
