While visiting a jobsite in Ashtabula County this morning, I was able to stop at the sandspit from 8:30 to 9:00. It was raining and extremely windy. Great birding weather! I saw 32 species in my short visit. Good shorebird numbers. Here are some of the highlights:
Green-winged Teal 6
Semipalmated Plover 25+
Black-bellied Plover 7+
Greater Yellowlegs 2
Lesser Yellowlegs 12+
Spotted Sandpiper 3
Short-billed Dowitcher 5
Stilt Sandpiper 3
Sanderling 1
Semipalmated Sandpiper 15+
Least Sandpiper 60+
Baird's Sandpiper 1
Pectoral Sandpiper 2
Bonaparte's Gull 11
Caspian Tern 18+
Turkey Vulture 75+ ( On and over the beach )
Bald Eagle 1 (An immature constantly landing and flushing everything)
Bob Lane
