I observed around 10 White-winged Crossbills in Area X of Greenlawn Cemetery this morning. Not much else of particular note in the cemetery, the feeders are active, but only with juncos, starlings, mourning doves and a few House Finches.
Other highlights from a morning birding around Columbus:
1 Black-crowned Night-heron at OSU's Drake Union - sticking it out even though the river is frozen?
The Dickcissel is still present at Blendon Woods Metro Park Nature Center.
Hoover Dam - the reservoir is completely frozen, but there are hordes of waterfowl below the dam. Mainly Canada Geese and Mallards, but a fair amount of Northern Shovelers and American Widgeons, too, along with a single male Redhead and a dozen Hooded Mergansers. Also of note was a flock of at least 64 crows. The only gulls were about 15 Ring-billed Gulls and a single Herring Gull.
Pickerington Ponds - no open water, very few birds around.
