I stopped at Hoover Reservoir in Columbus at about 4:30 PM on Tuesday to look through the gulls. Viewing conditions were much better than Sunday as a thin sheet of ice allowed the gulls to gather in groups on the ice. I would estimate that the total number of gulls was about half of those present last Sunday but it was still impressive numbers. When I arrived at the access closest to the dam, I ran into Dave Slager pointed out a Glaucous Gull, Iceland Gull and Lesser Black-Backed Gull. Over time, I believe there were 2 or 3 Glaucous Gulls at this location and later, I had another Lesser Black-Backed Gull further north at Walnut Street. The kittiwake was not observed this evening.
There was also a good number of ducks on the far shore north of the dam including Canvasback, Redhead, Ring-necked Duck, Greater Scaup, Lesser Scaup, Common Goldeneye, Hooded Merganser, Red-breasted Merganser and a single Horned Grebe.
