The pond at the famous Magee Marsh Boardwalk had a beautiful male Wood Duck
this morning. Part of the pond was still frozen with lots of dead fish on it
with 7 Herring Gulls were feeding on the fish parts.
Many male Red-winged Blackbirds are setting up territory in the marsh as we
speak. Canada Geese are flying all over the place along with lots of
Mallards and Ring-billed Gulls. Here is a list of the birds seen at the
Magee Marsh Causeway and the pond by the boardwalk this morning.
1. Canada Goose – 100’s flying by and in the marsh.
2. Trumpeter Swan -1 pair
3. Wood Duck – 1 male at pond.
4. Gadwall – 24 +
5. American Wigeon – 30 +
6. American Black Duck – 10
7. Mallard – 25+
8. Northern Pintail – 30+ flyovers
9. Common Merganser – 12 flyovers to the lake.
10. Hooded Merganser – 6+ in the marsh feeding.
11. Great Blue Heron – 1
12. Bald Eagle – 8 immature eagles on the causeway.
13. Killdeer – 1 flying over the marsh.
14. Ring-billed Gulls – everywhere.
15. Herring Gull – 10+
16. Mourning Dove – 3 on the wires driving in.
17. American Crow – 5 migrating past the marsh.
18. American Robin – 1 flyover.
19. Northern Cardinal – 1 male singing on the boardwalk.
20. Red-winged Blackbird – 20+ males setting-up territory.
21. Common Grackle – 2 at the boardwalk entrance.
Benton Carroll Road – ½ mile before entrance to Magee Marsh.
(East of the entrance and ¼ mile down from route 2 on the right in a flooded
field)
1. Canada Goose – 40+
2. American Wigeon – 1 pair
3. Mallard – 55-70
4. Northern Pintail – 55-70
5. Ring-billed Gull – 30+
6. Herring Gull – 2
7. European Starling – 20+
8. Red-winged Blackbird – 30+
9. Common Grackle – 10+
