Shaune Skinner and I had an extraordinary birding day today. We found a
Golden Winged Warbler at Greenlawn Dam at around 11 am. It was in a flock
of White Throated Sparrows,Chickadees and Cardinals. The bird was moving
with the flock, N to S and we had very good looks at it on the paved path
just to the north of the bridge.
Later we saw a yellow flash in the vines covering the fences near the
fireman burning pile of skids. Rob Thorn joined us and confirmed that as a
Golden Crowned Kinglet. He did not observe the warbler. Hopefully someone
will see the bird this weekend and verify the ID.
Other sightings of note:
Greenlawn Cemetery - Merlin, Purple Finch, Red Tail (2)
Confluence - Hooded Merganser(18), Great Blue Heron (2),Immature Eagle
Watermark Quarries - Mute Swans (2),Robins (75)
Greenlawn Dam - Brown Creeper (4 or 5),Kingfisher (under the bridge),
Carolina Wren (2)
