Summit Lake gave up some first-of-season finds this afternoon...
North end in canal:
lone drake canvasback
South end from the new boardwalk offering excellent views:
many Am. coots
one pied billed grebe
handsome pair of northern shovelers
pair of ruddy ducks
one ring necked duck
At Firestone Metro Park:
two rusty blackbirds
killdeer calling overhead
wood duck heard but not seen
CVNP Tuesday night:
At Bath Rd/Cuyahoga river:
green winged teal, as reported on this list, in the river south the Bath
Rd bridge.
wood ducks in river north of the Bath Rd bridge.
plenty of great blue herons in the heronry.
At "Beaver Marsh" on Riverview Rd. (north of Ira trailhead):
one American wigeon
a bunch of scaup? or ring necked? (it was pretty dusk at this point)
wood ducks
At Horseshoe Pond (Major Rd.)
red breasted nuthatches heard but not seen in their usual hotspot, spruce
woods along boardwalk
Red winged blackbirds are everywhere in modest numbers, including 8 females.
No mergansers anywhere! Yet.
