Hi all,
Following is a note that I received this evening, regarding Short-eared Owls at Big Island Wildlife Area. For info about Big Island, visit the OOS website at: http://www.ohiobirds.org/birdingsites/showsite.php?Site_ID=7

Hi Mr. McCormac! I attended last years Winter Raptor Hike at the Wilds. I was reading your blog and you mentioned spotting short-eared owls at Big Island Wildlife Refuge. Well, I went up there this evening around 4pm, at the intersection of 203 and 95...and got to park by this old shed and a pile of wood. I saw 12 short-eared owls flying LITERALLY everywhere!!! It was the most amazing experience I have ever had. I saw them perched in a pile of wood, hovering all over the fields, on top of telephone poles, landing on prey, must have been meadow voles...this has to be a boom year like you suspected on your blog. Just wanted to pass this onto you and other bird lovers. It was like "Short-Eared Owl Island"! This is truly one of my "life birds" and now I not only seen one, but like 12!! Have a good night and happy birding. :)
