I have become a recent subscriber to the listserv, so recent in fact, that
I'm a little late in discovering how to submit a message of a sighting this
past weekend.
I was exploring Big Island Wildlife Area west of Marion on Saturday, January
8, looking for SE owls & harriers.
In walking T-84, I found both:
2 harriers flying over the fields surrounding the pond for much of the
afternoon
and 2 SE owls deep to the tree line east of the road about 4:00 (distant
views only)
What excited me most was the shrike in the small trees just south of the
parking lot on the west side T-84.
It remained in the area all afternoon and was easily viewed as I walked from
the lot, south, just 30 feet from the road's edge across from the pond.
