There was a pair of ring necked ducks on the upper pond at Lakeview Cemetery
today...they have been there since last Wednesday at least. Not much else of
note there, couldn't find the redtail hawk pair that I've seen quite a bit the
past 6 wks. (I did see a pair flying northeast from the intersections of North
and South Park and N. Woodland.) The upper pond was about 50% open, the lower
about 20%. The photo was taken last Wednesday when the pond was almost totally
ice free. One mute swan at E. 72nd st. still, with only a handful of gulls and
ducks for company, floating ice out about 300 yds except by the warm water
outlet though at Gordon Pk next door the harbor was still frozen.
