Had an opportunity to get out and do some hiking/birding on Thursday afternoon in a wet woods in
Claridon Twp. and had several reasons to smile. Got good looks at a veery moving from place to place
feeding. Saw my first two warblers of the year, a yellow-rumped and a yellow, actively feeding. Heard
blue-gray gnatcatchers and golden-crowned kinglets and saw dozens of tree and northern rough-
winged swallows doing an impressive aerial display over a beaver pond. On the way out my husband
spotted a barred owl and I was lucky enough to see it as it took off. As my daughter says, "When the
woods call, you must answer!"
