In the steady rain, at 4:30 this afternoon I had Frohring Meadows
entirely to myself.
Undisturbed, in the marsh, I saw a Virginia Rail walking around on
some flattened
vegetation, completely in the open. The best and longest views I've
ever had.
The same for a Sora, busily feeding near the edges of the marsh, and
preening
from a perch in the reed bed.
The only other birds that I could find in the marsh were the abundant
red wings and
a lone greater yellowlegs.
Flying over the fields, and feeding on the edge of the grass were
three Wilson's Snipe.
A few Savannah Sparrows kicked up wherever I walked.
Yesterday I saw several Vesper Sparrows in the little wooded patch
before the power
lines, but I didn't attempt to locate them in the rain today.
