Hi all!
The Midwest Birding Symposium returns to shores of Lake Erie in just two months! Register by
Friday, July 15th to get $15 off your registration by taking advantage of the "early bird" plan! Or, if
you are attending with eight people or more, register as a "group" and get a discount. Details on
the Midwest Birding Symposium website.
Midwest Birding Symposium, also known as "The World's Friendliest Birding Event, is September
15-18 in charming Lakeside, Ohio. It's sponsored by Bird Watcher's Digest, The Ohio
Ornithological Society, and Lakeside - The Chautauqua on Lake Erie.
The symposium features lectures by North America's leading birders, a vendor display area to
explore the latest birding optics and more, a series of travel lectures, events for young birders, a
"Big Sit", and field trips to the area's best birding hotspots! More than 1000 people participated in
MBS '09. A sum of $10,000 dollars for conservation causes was raised at MBS '09 thanks to
generous contributions from many attendees and a matching gift from the Ohio Ornithological
Society.
Speakers include Al Batt, Pete Dunne, Jeff Gordon, Alvaro Jaramillo, Kenn & Kim Kaufman, Jim
McCormac, Greg Miller, Michael O'Brien, John Robinson, Bridget Stutchbury, and Louis Zemaitis as
well as Bill Thompson III and Julie Zickefoose.
Birding destinations include East Harbor State Park (site of the '09 Kirtland's Warbler!) Magee
Marsh Wildlife Area, Marblehead Lighthouse State Park, Meadowbrook Marsh, Ottawa National
Wildlife Refuge, and Black Swamp Bird Observatory (MBS's special "Birding Information" partner).
Hotel Lakeside and the Fountain Inn are already fully booked but reservations are still available
for Lakeside cottages, cabins, and campgrounds: details on the MBS website. Space is still available
for the "Sunset Boat Cruise" on Thursday evening, September 15, but the Sunday, September 18
"Kelleys Island Birding Excursion" is sold out :-(
We hope to see you there! Don't forget, there are a variety of activities for non-birders, too!
